The botched rollout of a new student tracking system in Los Angeles Unified School District has roiled the city’s teachers union, United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA). According to teachers, the two-year-old, $20 million system has resulted in overcrowded classrooms, inaccurate rosters and technical glitches that complicated enrollment. Administrators insist that the troubles are only part of a natural learning curve, but the district’s inspector general has initiated an audit of the system’s implementation. (Los Angeles Times)
