Report: Texas Among 10 Worst States for Water Pollution
Texas does not fare well in a new report by the group Environment America Research and Policy Center that ranks the states that are polluting U.S. waterways the most, drawing on data published by the industries themselves as well as on government numbers. According to the report, which broke down the data by state, region and water source, Texas ranks second on the list of water-polluting states. The Texas Gulf Coast ranks first in region, and the lower Brazos River ranks first in local watersheds. The report says that industry dumped more than 206 million pounds of toxic chemicals into U.S. waterways in 2012. (Environment America Research & Policy Center)
