Gallego Raises $400,000 in Second Quarter

U.S. Rep. Pete Gallego announced Tuesday that his re-election campaign raised $407,547 in the second quarter, bringing his total cash on hand to $814,283.

Gallego, an Alpine Democrat, is running in one of the few genuinely competitive races this year among Texas’ congressional delegation. According to a Houston Chronicle blog post, his fundraising outpaced that of Republican nominee Will Hurd, who raised $272,044 over the same time period and has about $150,000 currently on hand.

Gallego’s campaign has already purchased roughly $500,000 of television ad time, according to the campaign.

Referring to Hurd’s latest totals — and the National Republican Congressional Committee’s lack of television ad purchases in the district thus far — Gallego campaign spokesman Anthony Gutierrez said, “These weak fundraising numbers are further proof that no one sees our opponent as a wise investment — not even his own party.”
