A new state law intended to steer eighth-graders toward one of five distinct areas of specialization is causing anxiety among students and school counselors. Known as "endorsements," the specializations — which include science, business, public service, arts and humanities, and multidisciplinary studies — aim to focus students on future career paths before reaching high school.
