Former Secretary of State Appointed to Higher Ed Board

John Steen may have recently resigned his post as secretary of state, but he has not left state government behind. He was appointed by Gov. Rick Perry to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board on Friday.

John T. Steen, Jr. appears before the Senate Nominations Committee on Feb. 11, 2013 for a confirmation hearing as Texas' 108th Secretary of State.

John Steen may have recently resigned his post as secretary of state, but he has not left state government behind. He was appointed by Gov. Rick Perry to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board on Friday.

Steen announced his resignation as secretary of state in December, saying that he wanted to return to the work of his private law practice and managing his family's investments.

The world of higher education is not new for Steen. Among other boards and government appointments, he has served on the board of trustees at Austin College, San Antonio Community College District and Alamo Community College District.

His appointment to the coordinating board will be effective on Jan. 8 and will expire in August 2019.
