Aquarena Springs: From Theme Park to Nature Center

In the latest issue of Bobcat Magazine, a publication of the San Marcos Mercury, Lindsay Sansom of the Meadows Center for Water and the Environment tells the story of how Aquarena Springs was transformed over a 20-year period from a theme park known for performing mermaids and swimming pigs to an environmental learning center and hub for water research initiatives. The Meadows Center presides over the pristine Spring Lake, the source of the San Marcos River, where children can now learn about one of the most unusual and diverse ecological habitats in the U.S.
