July 9th, 2012: Speaker Joe Straus speaks to reporters Marjorie Kamys Cotera

Jesse Ancira will be House Speaker Joe Straus‘ chief of staff, and Patricia Shipton is joining the speaker as “strategic legislative advisor,” according to sources close to Straus.

Ancira has been acting chief of staff since the departure of Denise Davis earlier this year. Davis and Lisa Kaufman, Straus’ policy director and a top adviser, left government to form their own lobby firm.

Shipton, a former legislative adviser to Gov. Rick Perry, has been a lobbyist for the last several years.

[Editor’s note: an earlier version of this story had an incorrect title for Shipton. She will be Straus’ “strategic legislative advisor”.]
