Austin Democratic state Rep. Mark Strama released a campaign ad on Wednesday calling for a focus on renewable energy.

"Texas has prospered as the leader in oil and gas," he says. "But promising new energy technologies are being developed in other states and other countries."  He cites Austin's success in attracting semiconductor jobs and says the same can be done in the field of renewable energy. He concludes, "Let's put solutions above ideology and Texas above politics."

Strama's Republican challenger, Patrick McGuinness, also released an ad Wednesday attacking the incumbent for aligning to closely with President Barack Obama.
