TribBlog: Haley Hearts Rick

The Republican Governor's Association does NOT get involved in primaries, but...

Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, the chairman of the Republican Governors Association, which is meeting in Bastrop County, said a few things this afternoon about the GOP primary battle in Texas.

#1: The RGA does NOT get involved in primaries.

BUT #2: Personally he has endorsed Gov. Rick Perry and thinks Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison should stay in the Senate. "I'd hate to lose a great senator when we've already got a fine governor," he says.

Barbour has already been to Texas to to campaign with Gov. Perry. He said he has talked with Sen. Hutchison about his feelings on the GOP primary but he declined to give any details. In the meantime, Governor Perry has been tweeting from the RGA event about the great job Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has done in his state.
