Larry Taylor is the Texas State Senator for District 11, first elected in 2012. The district is comprised of parts of Brazoria, Galveston and Harris Counties.
He is serving as the chair of the Education Committee. He also sits on the Business & Commerce, Finance and the Intergovernmental Relations committees.
Taylor previously served five terms in the Texas House of Representatives. During his tenure, Taylor served as the Chairman of the House Elections Committee, Co-Chairman of the Windstorm Insurance Legislative Oversight Board, a member of the House Insurance Committee, the House Select Committee on Voter Identification and Voter Fraud, the Energy Council, and two terms as Chairman of the House Republican Caucus.
Taylor was named a "Taxpayer Advocate" by Texans for Fiscal Responsibility, a "Champion of Free Enterprise" by the Texas Association of Business, and a "Courageous Conservative" by the Texas Conservative Coalition. Locally, he was recognized as Galveston Daily News' "2011 Citizen of the Year" and named "Texas Legislative Champion" by the Sealy and Smith Foundation for his efforts to repair the medical branch after Hurricane Ike.
He owns Truman Taylor Insurance Agency in Friendswood, an independent agency started by his father over 50 years ago.
Taylor attended Baylor University where he received his BBA in 1982. He and his wife Kerri have three children.
