George W. Bush was the 46th Governor of Texas and the 43rd President of the United States.
He became the Governor of Texas after defeating Gov. Ann Richards in 1994. He was reelected in 1998 with a record 69 percent of the vote. He defeated Vice President Al Gore in 2000 to become President of the United States. He was reelected, defeating Sen. John Kerry, in 2004.
He is the son of former President George H. W. Bush and Barbara Bush.
