Farmers and Ranchers Look Back on a Difficult Year

Farmers and ranchers in the American Southwest experienced an up-and-down year when it came to water in 2013, according to an article in Southwest Farm Press. Although many were devastated by drought, the return of rain in some regions, at least temporarily, marked a break in seemingly endless drought conditions. Rice farmers in coastal Texas found themselves at odds with Central Texas water needs. And in deep South Texas, farmers faced off with Mexican water interests as Mexico withheld water that had been promised by treaty.
