In an op-ed for The Dallas Morning News, Luke Metzger, the founder and director of Environment Texas, urges legislators to consider the consequences of new water projects and to weigh using existing conservation tools to stem waste and improve efficiency. "Before we subject Texas rivers to more water withdrawals that threaten wildlife and our ability to enjoy those waterways," he writes, "shouldn’t we first take every reasonable opportunity available to save water?"
