The Brief: Sept. 10, 2014

State Rep. Charles Perry, R-Lubbock, a Tea Party favorite, cruised to an outright win on Tuesday night in the special election to fill the West Texas Senate seat formerly held by Robert Duncan.

The Brief: Sept. 9, 2014

Rick Perry's attorneys were back on Monday with a new filing in which they pursue a different path to quash the felony indictments handed down against the governor last month while relying on many of the same arguments as before.

The Brief: Aug. 5, 2014

SpaceX on Monday chose to place its first commercial launch complex on Boca Chica beach near Brownsville. The announcement solidified Texas' leading position in the country's space program even as it transitions to one with greater opportunities for private companies.

The Brief: July 29, 2014

At a special University of Texas System regents meeting on Tuesday evening, they are expected to name a sole finalist for the system's next chancellor. And their choice is expected to be Admiral William H. McRaven.

Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst seemed of two minds on Monday in his treatment of former rival Jerry Patterson's decision to give media outlets court documents detailing his runoff opponent Dan Patrick's treatment in the 1980s for depression.

The Texas Senate, digging publicly for money while it battles quietly over a proposed budget, approved a "non-tax revenue" bill that would make $4.3 billion available for spending over the next two years.
