First in The Blast: U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey, D-Fort Worth, is endorsing Lulu Seikaly in their party's primary runoff for the 3rd Congressional District.
"Lulu Seikaly is the voice Collin County needs in Congress," Veasey, a regional vice chair for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, says in a statement. "She’s dedicated to putting the people of North Texas above special interests to expand health care and make sure our economy works for everyone."
The 3rd District, currently held by Rep. Van Taylor, R-Plano, is not among the seven seats that the DCCC is working to flip this election cycle in Texas. Yet Democrats such as Seikaly argue the seat's not out of reach, noting Beto O'Rourke lost it by only 3 percentage points in the 2018 U.S. Senate race.
Seikaly faces fellow attorney Sean McCaffity in the July 14 runoff. She got 45% of the vote in the three-way March primary, while he finished a point behind her.
