Taylor: Never Mind on That Congressional Race

State Rep. Larry Taylor, R-Friendswood, says that he won't be a candidate for Congress in the seat opened by Ron Paul's decision not to seek another term. Paul is dropping out to focus on his run for the Republican presidential nomination. When he announced that decision, Taylor jumped up to say he might be interested. It was a short exploration, and he's decided to stay in Texas. But maybe not in the state House, where he's the head of the Republican Caucus. His state senator, Mike Jackson, R-La Porte, is looking at a different congressional seat, and if he runs, Taylor might run for Senate.

Here's his statement:

After careful consideration and thoughtful discussion with my family, I have decided not to be a candidate for Congress in 2012.

I have concluded that I can provide the most effective public service as a member of the Texas Legislature. 

If Senator Jackson decides to run for Congress, I intend to seek the Republican nomination for State Senate in District 11.
