Video: Gohmert Tells Napolitano She Was Being "Kept in the Dark"

U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Tyler, and DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano had a heated exchange Thursday at a hearing after Napolitano took issue with accusations she said are being made against people solely because they are Muslim.

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano visits Laredo, TX to announce the 2010 fiscal year Operation Stonegarden grants.

U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Tyler, told Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano on Thursday that she was being “kept in the dark,” after he accused the secretary of not knowing that members of terrorist organizations are allegedly allowed into the White House.

The heated exchange took place during a DHS oversight hearing before the House Judiciary Committee and centered on recent allegations that Mohamed Elibiary, who was appointed by President Obama to the Homeland Security Advisory Council, allegedly downloaded classified documents from a government database.

Napolitano said the allegations are false and took issue with what she said were claims made against certain people because they are Muslim.

Gohmert responded: “You follow me around the world. You see me hugging Muslims around the world, because the ones I hug are our friends.”

This video of the exchange, which was televised on C-SPAN, was posted on YouTube by ThinkProgress.
