Landscape architects and environmental planners must acknowledge rapid shifts in the environment, or "landscape migration" beyond just the migration of animals, writes Brett Milligan of the University of California, Davis. In wetland landscapes, including the Klamath Basin in Oregon and California, they are working with biologists and essentially “designing with water” to sustain the kind of change and fluctuation needed to maintain "biologically productive refuges."
