New EPA Rules Would Limit Pollutants From Power Plants

The Environmental Protection Agency is proposing new rules that would limit the amount of certain pollutants that can be dumped by power plants into the nation's lakes, rivers and streams. Spencer Hunt of The Columbus Dispatch reports that most coal-fired plants currently face no limits on the amount of toxins like mercury, lead and cadmium that can be emitted into the nation's waterways. An EPA study has found that those plants are responsible for at least half of the industrial toxins that make their way into the country's lakes and rivers.
