Job opening: Sponsorship Sales Executive

The Texas Tribune, a leading member-supported, digitally focused, nonpartisan news organization, is looking for a smart and creative sponsorship sales executive to work with organizations and associations. This position is responsible for crafting, presenting and implementing digital and event sponsorship strategies to renew and grow existing Tribune sponsors along with breaking new business and delivering positive business experiences.

The Texas Tribune began as a solution to the decline of journalism in Texas – a new model for public service journalism: a nonprofit, nonpartisan news organization covering politics and public policy.

Today the Tribune is an established leader in the field, recognized as one of the world’s most widely respected media startups – and the national gold standard for statehouse reporting. Our mission remains the same: to promote civic engagement through data applications, statewide events and enterprise reporting on a full range of topics. In eight short years, The Tribune has grown from a scrappy startup to a renowned news organization, a hub for the Texas politics and policy community, and a model for nonprofit media organizations around the globe. We’ve expanded from 17 employees to nearly 70. Since 2009, The Tribune has raised more than $50 million. Our unique (and uniquely transparent) financial model – a combination of corporate sponsorships, individual donations, philanthropic grants, membership and ticketed events – has unquestionably worked. We are looking to increase our selling capacity to support our most fundamental ambition: providing even more extraordinary journalism to further and more deeply engage Texans.

Our dream is to continue to grow our sponsorship revenue for ongoing sustainability and add new messaging elements to continue to build on strategy of custom client marketing programs for maximum return on investment.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the management team to execute against defined sponsor targets
  • Use past success and relationships to introduce The Texas Tribune directly to sponsors
  • Manage element integration, structuring, negotiation, and closing with a wide variety of sponsors/association partners
  • Utilize a consultative sales approach, lead campaigns and initiatives, including return on investment analysis
  • Simultaneously manage a large pipeline of sales prospects to insure opportunities are closed and implemented successfully
  • Represent The Texas Tribune at events and networking functions

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of online sales/business development experience
  • Demonstrated success and a history of over-achievement and top team performance
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to effectively communicate the message of The Texas Tribune and make a compelling case for sponsorship
  • Ability to work independently, a focused self-starter
  • Ability to prospect and create your own opportunities
  • Consultative, solution selling style with a focus on relationship building
  • Uses the ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment
  • Comfortable in a small, intense and fast-growing startup/entrepreneurial environment
  • Strong professional network throughout the state of Texas
