Get past the rhetoric and experience the reality of the Texas border with a special screening of The Texas Tribune’s short documentary, Beyond the Wall, on Tuesday, March 28, followed by a short panel discussion.

The film puts viewers into the shoes of undocumented immigrants, border patrol agents and a borderland rancher to explore the state's most pressing immigration issues. It was made in conjunction with our yearlong Bordering on Insecurity project. Following the screening, the Tribune's Jay Root will moderate an expert panel discussion exploring the issues and solutions.

Panelists include:

  • Julián Aguilar, reporter for The Texas Tribune
  • Bill Hammond, former CEO of the Texas Association of Business
  • A.J. Louderback, Jackson County Sheriff
  • Norma Torres Mendoza, DACA Recipient

The event will be held in KLRU's Studio 6A on the University of Texas at Austin campus (map and directions). Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. and the film will screen at 8 p.m. The conversation begins at 8:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available in the San Antonio Garage and 27th Street Garage located near campus (parking fee not included with registration).

Not able to join us? Many Texas PBS affiliates are scheduled to air the program. Check your local listings.

This event is presented by The Texas Tribune and KLRU. Foundation support is provided by The Ford Foundation and The Simmons Sisters Fund.
