Turner was elected Houston’s mayor in 2015. Previously, he represented District 139 in the Texas House for more than 20 years. In the Legislature, Turner served three terms as Speaker Pro Tem, on the leadership of the House Appropriations Committee and on the Legislative Budget Board. Before his career in public service, Turner founded the Houston law firm Barnes & Turner.
