Texas Commissioner of Agriculture Todd Staples has served the office since 2007. He is a former member of the Texas House of Representatives and the Texas Senate.

Staples is also a successful business owner whose specialties include real-estate appraisal and brokerage & property tax consulting. He is also a rancher, a plant nursery owner and former instructor of Trinity Valley Community College.

In his capacity as commissioner, he has been recognized by the, Independent Cattlemen of Texas, the Texas Farm Bureau, the Texas Forestry Association, the Texas Poultry Federation, the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, and the Texas Water Conservation Association.

He is a graduate of Texas A & M University, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics, magna cum laude in1984.

He and his wife Janet have four grown children, Brian Thorn, Jonathan Thorn, Jared Staples, and Elizabeth Staples.
