Guzman was appointed to the Texas Supreme Court by Gov. Rick Perry in October 2009. Before that, in 2001, Perry named her an associate justice on the state's 14th Court of Appeals in Houston.
Previously, she served as a trial court judge on the 309th Family District Court, a post she was appointed to by then-Gov. George W. Bush in 1999.
Before serving as a judge, Guzman worked at her own private law practice in Houston. Her husband, Tony Guzman, is a Houston police sergeant.
She owns stock in Microsoft, Wind River Systems, Exxon Company, Time Warner, Citigroup, Walmart and St Paul Travelers.
She is on the board of trustees for South Texas College of Law.
She owns a residence in Cypress valued at $140,682.
