Hillary Clinton: “Ted Cruz Was Right”

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz may have angered his own party when he refused to endorse Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention this week, but his divisive comments drew praise on Friday from an unlikely source: Hillary Clinton.

The presumptive Democratic nominee for president invoked Cruz’s suggestion in Cleveland Wednesday that Republicans should vote their conscience in November — a rebuke of Trump — to make her case at a campaign stop in Tampa, Florida.

“Something has gone terribly wrong when one speaker says, ‘Vote your conscience’ and gets booed. I mean, I never thought I would say these words, but Ted Cruz was right,” Clinton said, to applause and laughter.

“In this election, do the right thing and vote your conscience. Vote for your future. Vote for a United States of America,” she concluded.

Although Cruz has so far declined to endorse Trump — his rival in the Republican primary — in the presidential race, he clarified to Texas Republican delegates in Cleveland on Thursday that he will not vote for Clinton in November.
