The LaMantia family of McAllen owns L&F Distributors, a beer distribution company that brings Budweiser products to South Texas.
The LaMantias are the lead investors in a $23 million horse racing track in Hidalgo County. They also invested in Laredo Downs, a licensed but not constructed horse racetrack in Webb County.
L&F Distributors is based in McAllen and has offices or other facilities in Harlingen, Alice, Beeville, Laredo, Rio Grande City and Corpus Christi.
Joe LaMantia Jr., is the general partner. His sons — Joe III, Steve, Greg and Tony LaMantia — and daughter, Val LaMantia Peisen, also are involved in the business and the track ventures.
The LaMantias provided one of the planes that flew 11 Democratic state senators to Albuquerque, N.M., in 2003 to delay action on a Republican congressional redistricting bill.
