Robert Scott

Texas Education Commissioner Robert Scott

Robert Scott is the Texas Commissioner of Education. As commissioner, Scott is the head of the Texas Education Agency, which oversees the schools for 4.5 million students in K-12 public education in Texas. Scott was appointed by Gov. Rick Perry in October 2007.

Before his appointment, Scott served as acting commissioner twice and served four years as chief deputy commissioner, managing daily TEA operations.

Before his time at TEA, Scott served as senior policy advisor to Perry and is credited with helping pass and implement the Texas High School Initiative in 2003. (It is now called the Texas High School Project.)

According to his official bio, Scott supports charter school innovation, incentive awards for teachers, and renewing focus on health, fitness and the arts in public schools.

He received his bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Texas and has two children in Texas public schools.
