text size A A A

The Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) provides services for deaf and blind Texans, and rehabilitation and early childhood intervention for people with disabilities.

DARS was created during the 78th Legislative Session, when lawmakers merged a dozen state human services departments into four under House Bill 2292.

The agency oversees more than 3,000 employees, 150 offices, and an annual budget of $540 million. DARS serves just under 200,000 Texans.
