How Do TxDOT's New Salaries Compare to Other Agencies?
The Texas Transportation Commission made headlines last week when it approved a plan to upgrade the management of the Department of Transportation with five new hires — each paid up to at least $250,000 annually.
The commission and TxDOT have attempted to justify the large salary increases as part of an initiative to revitalize the giant agency by attracting new talent from the private sector.

Sec. 201.301(a), Transportation Code, says: "(a) The commission shall elect an executive director for the department. The director must be experienced and skilled in transportation planning and development and in organizational management."
Does anyone know anything about Mr. Wilson's experience and skill in transportation planning and development?

Over paid CEO's who are political pawns , what is new in GOP controlled state. The conversation about over paid cronies with in a department that is STATE (publicly funded, and public service oriented) comparing itself to a PRIVATE (profit seeking , no accountability , and non service oriented) entities is what has been the problem in state financial matters.
Since when does the state of Texas have private corporations running TxDOT? And since when do private corporations have a state highway department to compete with for services.
Probably a Perry contributor of some sort getting crony jobs

The pattern continues with record job slashing for regular state government jobs (edu, etc) while CEOs from for profit private sector get plum jobs and high compensation at the same state government.
Isn't Occupy Wall St about protesting corporate abuses, non accountability, over compensation at taxpayers expense.....?

Get your facts right:
"Of the 664,124 state employees in the Tribune’s salary database"
There aren't that many state employees, only about half that number, the rest are employees of local governments or school districts.
You cite Steve Simmons as the next highest paid TXDOT employee at $170,000, when Mr. Simmons has been retired for several months.
H.M. Ruthe
Sedlak has also retired.

Bottom line we need to cut state employees like the one making the choice to hire 5 new exec. Texas Citizens need to call there congress person and senator and demand this nonsense stop NOW.
