On Debt, Tea Party Should Put Up or Shut Up
Over the last year or so, I have been seriously conflicted regarding the Tea Party movement. On the one hand, for many years I have been extremely concerned about our national debt and our national leaders’ inability to even approach a balanced budget. As a country, we simply cannot continue to push this ever-increasing debt balloon out onto our children and grandchildren. Nor can we expect the world to continue to buy our debt instruments without someday having this debt bring this great country to its knees. I heartily endorse the Tea Party’s criticism of this irresponsible fiscal policy ...

We can't get enough people like Bill Ratliff ... a legacy of commitment to finding solutions and doing what is right for the state/country over and above any self-serving political agenda. Never will forget his statement that he's a Republican only because he agrees with Republicans 51 percent of the time.

The Bowles / Simpson plan is a crock designed to put even more money in the hands of the wealthy and take it from the shrinking middle class. Raise the taxes to pre Bush levels, lift the cap on SS paycheck deductions, cut the defense budget by ending two wars, get rid of Homeland Security and TSA, Do Medicare reform by putting the entire country on Medicare and limiting the profits of big Pharma etc...Put some tariffs on foreign goods from countries that do not open their markets to american products it is called fair trade not free trade.

Thank you for your service Lt. Gov. Ratliff. More than ever I wish you were still in Austin. Wish I had your ear to address how you'd suggest closing the gap on Texas' budget shortfall. Paul Burka's article was a good starting point but you know what is possible. Please write again soon.
I'd also like your thoughts on Gov. Perry's plan to end Medicaid in Texas vs Montana's Gov.Schweitzer's innovative idea to have everyone in his state get prescriptions at Medicaid prices. Which is doing more for to help their citizen?

My question to the Tea Partiers was always - Once you "take back America" what are you going to do with it? Obviously not compromise.

Thank you Lt. Gov. Ratliff. I'd be interested to know your thoughts on what to do about the $25-$28 billion shortfall in Texas?
