Truth be told, I'll miss him on the Public Safety Commission. In my admittedly limited dealings with him there he was extremely hardworking and conscientious, somebody who took his duties seriously with a customer service bent. If there's a criticism of the appointment, it's naming such a major donor/bundler to a high-profile post, something perhaps the Trib should have mentioned. However, though certainly I've disagreed with Mr. Steen on many things, I suspect he'll do a good job. Perry could have done far worse.

Why does Texas need a liaison to Mexico? Or is Texas still part of Mexico? Or is Texas a sovereign country again?

Reda, Do you really not understand that Mexico is our biggest trading partner?

Go to the Texas Ethics Commission, type "John Steen" into the Campaign Finance Reports as a contributor.
Then scroll through the thousands upon thousands of dollars he's contributed to Texans for Perry and to King Perry's twin attack dogs that sit aside his throne. It's the same story for every appointee he's tapped since he came into office; college regents, commissioners, court appointees, ad nauseam. He even appointed Senator Dan Patrick's son to a judgeship and a totally unqualified individual to the TSC, talk about political spoils...
Even if Perry is not re-elected in 2014, his appointments will have a long-lasting effect on Texas governance. He is, without a doubt, the most corrupt Governor in history, worse than even Ma and Pa Ferguson.
