With New Rules, Housing Board Loses Power
In many ways, the planned site for a huge affordable apartment complex in South Dallas seemed perfect.
The project, known as Hatcher Square, sits next to a train station and bus lines; it is close to jobs, churches and community centers, and surrounding residents have widely supported its construction.
But according to its backers, Hatcher Square will be all but impossible to build under new state rules that govern the lucrative subsidies developers rely on to build affordable housing.

What a deal. We the taxpayers get to subsidize the building of them,,, then subsidize the people living in them for life. Low Income in most cases actually means no income,,, and affordable housing means free housing,,,,,,,,,, who could not afford that? Sounds very affordable to me.

when do perry cronies finally start getting indicted for what they've done to the state of texas? ironic that robert scott is resigning as education commissioner when people see what has happened with inner city schools, parent complaints about funding and testing and of course all the lawsuits regarding schools. did i forget to mention how they allow teachers to be walked all over by their political friends.

This is just another way for the fringe powers in Austin to circumvent federal housing rules and regulations. Rick Perry, David Dewhurst and the Texas Legislature do not want to comply with federal policies and will make every effort to section off areas to vote for specific candidates or counter opposition parties. Studies can written to make any proposal good or bad depending on who is targeted. Cost justifications are often used and budget constraints have been cited, but the bottom line is representatives are in office for the good of ALL the people, not just a select few. Rick Perry, David Dewhurst and the Texas Legislature do not want to comply with federal policies, period. Sadly, the TEA fringe have taken root locally and at the state level as the TEA party candidates announced - “The revolution is working, we have infiltrated the Republican Party, and we will convert the Republican Party to defenders of liberty.” Do not allow the extreme few govern you and everyone else in Texas. Get involved, get vocal, get registered, vote and get out the vote! Failure to vote out extremist is not an option!
