White: Perry Land Deals Influenced State Grant
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Bill White is calling for an independent audit of Texas Enterprise Fund grants after documents showed the governor's office offered $2.5 million in state subsidies to Sino Swearingen, a company founded by Doug Jaffe. Jaffe is one of two partners involved in a controversial land deal that netted Perry a $500,000 profit.
Perry announced the grant at a press conference in San Antonio in 2006, but taxpayer money never made it to Sino Swearingen. The company rescinded its request for the grant because it had announced layoffs, despite earlier promises of adding 850 jobs ...

Truth Hurts
What about the $20 million in taxpayer funds Perry gave away to Countrywide, the subprime mortgage lender that played a key role in bringing down the American economy (and indirectly sending millions of Americans into unemployment)?
And the same Countrywide purchased by Bank of America and forced this month to agree to a $108 million government settlement over fraud charges.

Conservatives, this is my challenge to you. You're for fiscal responsibility. You're for keeping taxes low. You're for moral government. But, then, are you willing to hold a fellow conservative accountable when he gives away $20 million of your hard-earned tax dollars to an anti-American criminal organization like Countrywide? Right now, hard-working middle-class Texans don't have a governor. That's an empty office; and we're a rudderless ship.

Truth Hurts, my friend, I am a conservative... please do not paint with such a broad brush. The far right, represented by Perry and his power hungry cronies is NOT an accurate portrayal of authentic conservatism. Perry is an embarrassment to anyone who considers themselves an authentic conservative. I consider myself a Goldwater Republican but I will probably vote for Bill White this year. I would rather vote for a democrat whose policies I disagree with, than a Republican whose ethics I do not trust. I might just stay home.... but I would rather stand in a hail storm with out a hat on than vote for Perry.
