Perry Temporarily Gives Up His Personal Email Account

Anyone planning to email Gov. Rick Perry for the remainder of this session need not bother trying to reach him on his personal account. He won't be using it.

March 23rd, 2011 at the Frank Erwin Center.

Anyone planning to email Gov. Rick Perry for the remainder of this session need not bother trying to reach him on his personal account. He won't be using it. Until later this summer, Perry will only be using his state email address.

An email obtained by the Tribune shows that on April 1, Perry sent out a note to his friends that, due to an influx of spam, he's giving up emailing until later in the summer. Though this correspondence blackout overlaps with the end of the session, his office warns that it should not be interpreted as an attempt to skirt open records laws.

"This was sent from his personal email to friends of his," said Perry spokesman Mark Miner. "This was not sent from a state computer, it was a personal email to friends."

Miner said that Perry's state email account is still operational. So, if you have something to say, send it there first.
