Effort to Draft Tommy Lee Jones is "Absolutely Serious"
In recent weeks, an idea of Houston attorney Geoff Berg's turned into a Facebook page and then became a website that he hopes might spark a movement. The message: "Draft Tommy Lee Jones for Senate."
Berg, a left-leaning commentator and host of the radio show Partisan Gridlock on KPFT, says he is "absolutely serious."
"I can't think of another Democrat in Texas," Berg says, "that has the necessary name ID, that has positive name ID, that would be able to raise money, and that would have at least the potential to attract string voters and a substantial number ...

Barbara Ann Radnofsky? She's the deal.

Shared. If there is any Democrat that could win the race it it TLJ. Let's see if we can get the momentum going.

You know, if I actually knew his stance on issues important to me, I could consider if I would vote for him. The letter after a person's name (D, R, L, G, T, C or whatever) means nothing. What is the person's record and actual political stances?

I also know zilch about TLJ's position on, well, anything related to public policy.

Tim Covington, history tells us that it is ALL about the letter after the name in this state. If that letter is R, you've already won. Texas has been a one-party state for most of its history. Only the name has changed to protect the powerful.

Connie---I've NEVER been more proud to be a Texan, thanks! I know he won't run right now, but if I could hand pick anyone to replace Hutchison it would be State Sen. Glenn Hegar, yes, R-Katy.

Who does he think he is? Reagan? Not bloody likely...Not on my watch..
Connor Kilpatrick via Texas Tribune on Facebook
@Heather What exactly are you proud of: the enormous poverty? The massive corporate welfare and straight-up thieving of the Perry crew? Record setting pollution in the air and water supply?
Please: tell us, Heather.

@Gary He's far more intelligent than the Mimbo known as Reagan.
"Not on my watch"
You wingers and your action movie cliches...so funny!

If he'd be friendlier to the people in San Antonio,he might have a chance. He's the official *ssho*e. And I'm not kidding! We respect our BBall team players, and this man is a jerk, which is too bad. Maybe it would be a lot more humbling if everybody ignored him.Maybe he needs a good sc***.

Heather, Texas has not been a one party Republican state most of its history. L.B. J., Sam Rayburn and most of our largest figures in history have been Democrats. Get out your history books and do some reading.

Heather needs to take Michele Bachmann with her to a civics class. How on earth did Michele Bachmann get elected?

@ Mary He's an ass****? Because he doesn't wanna yuk it up and sign autographs for a bunch of suburban Texas republicans? Because he doesn't want to live the life of a celebrity? When I was younger, I used to do some hunting with my dad around San Saba on a lease adjacent to Tommy Lee Jones's ranch. Dude's reputation was pretty great with the folks around there.
Here's TLJ on his role in the (very underrated) IN THE VALLEY OF ELAH. Maybe this explains his "ass**** reputation"? Make him president, dammit:
'Old Hank is the kind of character that I, personally, would dismiss,' Jones says, gruffly. 'He's most certainly ethnocentric and blindly, unquestioningly patriotic. I looked upon him as typical of the sort of person who can be led by the nose by jingoistic headlines into a fraudulent war.'

Hell, Ah'll vote fer him! Fact is though, this guy is real sophisticated, intellectual, is more likely to be wearing a $3000 suit than a sweat stained cowboy hat and levis--unless he's out on his polo ponies. He loves his privacy. I don't think he is enough of a megalomaniac to run. Politics is a game for midgets with big chips on their shoulders.

Let's get started Texas! Tommy Lee Jones is one excellent pick for Senator from Texas. Texas has been awash in red tape and mismanagement for too long. Rick Perry is a career politician with no real world experience, who forces his warped narrow-minded religious beliefs on Texas women instead of addressing the 16 billion dollar budget deficit! Restrict Abortion or cut expenses - That's the cry from the radical Republican "Wrongs". These guys are so out of touch and a good example is Rick Perry of Texas:
Thanks to Perry Texas is:
— Tax expenditures per capita (47th)
— Percent of population 25 and older with a high school diploma (50th)
— Percent of poor people covered by Medicaid (49th)
— Percent of population with employer-based health insurance (48th)
— Per capita spending on mental health (50th)
— Per capita spending on Medicaid (49th)
— Percent of non-elderly women with health insurance (50th)
— Percent of women receiving prenatal care in first trimester (50th)
— Average credit score (49th)
— Workers' compensation coverage (50th)
— Number of executions (1st)
— Public school enrollment (2nd)
— Percent of uninsured children (1st)
— Percent of children living in poverty (4th)
— Percent of population uninsured (1st)
— Percent of population living below poverty (4th)
— Percent of population with food insecurity (2nd)
— Overall birth rate (2nd)
— Amount of carbon dioxide emissions (1st)
— Amount of toxic chemicals released into water (1st)
— Amount of hazardous waste generated (1st)
Texas has been run into the ground under the Republican banner - We need new blood in Austin and I think Tommy Lee Jones is one excellent choice. His running would bring many new voters to the polls.
According to Kaplan Corporation, the five states with no collective bargaining for teachers rank as follows in SAT/ACT scores:
South Carolina - 50th
North Carolina - 49th
Georgia - 48th
Texas - 47th
Virginia - 44th
Wisconsin is currently ranked 2nd.

Didn't you dems get the message in the last election? Texas was the biggest bloodbath of all for the Party of Zero. I don't care how big Jones' name is, he is never going to get elected as long as there is a 'D' after his name. Maybe you should be concentrating on finding someone with real ideas instead of thinking you can peel off a few votes away from a 20-25 point deficit with a Hollywood liberal. Do you really think an actor can win a statewide election in Texas? You're even more out-of-touch than most conservatives ever imagined.
