You Thought Redistricting Was About the Candidates?
Redistricting is supposed to be about the voters — not the candidates.
That’s hard to remember when the mapmakers are at work. They’re all former candidates and current officeholders, and many of them want to be candidates again, either for the offices they now hold or the offices they dream about.

Minorities are accustomed to voting for ethnicities other than their own because they are, duh, minorities. It is the Anglos that have had difficulties voting for minorities. I also note that as a state becomes more minority, it becomes more likely to shift the redistricting away from the legislature to non-partisan panels. California, Florida, and Arizona come to mind.

Uhh,Lewis, you might ask Stafani Carter, James White, Scott Turner, not to mention several Hispanic state reps in Anglo districts. Problem for you is... only REPUBLICANS elect minoritiesin Anglo districts. The Dems fight to elect Anglos in minority districts.

Just because I'm Anglo, I don't have to only vote for Anglos. I would hope we could give the Hispanics the same respect.
