What Public Employees Make
San Antonio City Manager Sheryl Sculley is the highest-paid big-city employee in Texas, making $315,000 annually. The runner-up? Her counterpart in Dallas — City Manager Mary Suhm, who makes $278,460, according to that city's records, now available in a searchable Texas Tribune database of public employee salaries.
But they're relative laggards when you look at state-level salaries, particularly in the major university systems. why does this not include employees from universities like sam houston, stephen f. austin, etc....?

I looked for the top salaries for the Comptroller's investment team which was awarded over $400,000 in bonuses last year. Even though the investment team, as most other investment teams, lost money. The salary information for these folks was initially posted in a public database and then someone received permission to delete these employees from the public databases.
To many elected officials tout the citizens right to public information, but they will have any information redacted if it makes them look bad. Most elected officials don't really want you to know what they are doing. There are many officials who use state, county, and city budgets to build empires, the public be damned.
Too many people have lost faith in elected officials because of this kind of behavior.
A publication such as this, the "Texas Tribune" will hopefully shed light on these officials.
