Updated: Voter ID Trial Will Begin in July
Update, 3:15 p.m.:
Jerry Strickland, Abbott's communications director, issued the following statement on Friday's decision:
"This morning, the partisans who oppose Texas' Voter ID law once again attempted to delay the trial date—and the inevitable enforcement of the State's photo identification requirement. The State of Texas continues to urge the Court proceed to trial in so that the Voter ID law can be implemented in time for the November elections. When the Court asked the Department of Justice if it had sufficient information to proceed as scheduled, Justice Department lawyers confirmed that they have ...

So you are assuming that the losing side will not appeal. The U.S. Supreme Court has never ruled on a Voter ID law for a state covered by the Voting Rights Act. The U.S. Supreme Court starts its recess in June.

End voter supression. Vote Democratic.

Does this mean my dogs will lose their votes? Spot has never registered or tried,,, But Jake and Barney should not have their rights suppressed..

...for the sake of argument, let us assume there is actual rampant voter fraud (which never seems to get presented whether in the courts or by the politicians that pound the table on the matter).
If you are implying your dogs Jake and Barney are registered, that is an issue with the government offices that handle the voter registration rolls. Perhaps, then, we do not fund them adequately to do their job?
So, the solution is to require picture identification? If we did not adequately fund government to maintain voter rolls in this scenario, why should we expect them to actually fund the programs to get people identification cards?
Furthermore, what is to stop the person using Jake and Barney's "registration" from creating a fake identification card? These criminals, afterall, are so good at getting away with voter fraud that we can never catch them! Do we need to create some form of picture id system for every polling place to matchup your real face with that of the card? Who is going to pay for this exstravagance?
Maybe, though, that is not enough! Why not simply demand everyone be fingerprinted and require a form of DNA to be checked at the voter rolls. We can never be too sure that voter fraud is going on. Again, we will have to find a way to pay for this, but so be it.
...OR we can assume voter registration is doing its job, and update them as necessary. Perhaps we know Jake and Barney are dog-based voters because we are actually catching false voter registrations?

Republicans are simply trying to win elections in advance by disenfranchising groups that tend to vote Democratic. College students and mobile young people might not have a matching license and address and student I.D's aren't acceptable so they need to register where their parents live, keep their address there and vote early. The other option is to register where they go to college and change their license to that town and address if this voter suppression act is affirmed.
