Debbie Riddle Intends to File Voter ID Legislation
Remember that long, heated voter identification debate last session? State Rep. Debbie Riddle is working on a sequel.
The Houston Republican announced today that she will, once again, file "ballot security legislation that would require Texas voters to show a photo ID or two forms of non-photo ID at a polling place" next session.
The issue of voter ID was the hottest of hot button issues last session. Republicans argued that it was necessary to protect the integrity of the ballot box. Democrats viewed it as an unnecessary political move that, at worst, would do little more than prevent a ...

I have to show id to get a drivers licence, get a passport, cash a check, check out a library book, register my kids for school, pay my taxes, buy insurance, buy a cell phone, sign up for cable TV, so why not to vote?

shouldnt our reps be working on our debt and budget woes?? more pressing issues than this.

MM: Voting is a right. What you listed are privileges. Identification is verified when you first get your voted card.
The bill is a solution is search of problem. The true purpose is disenfranchise people who traditionally vote for Democratic Party candidates. Even among conservatives Riddle is a bit of a cuckoo bird.
I think solving the $18 billion dollar budget deficiency is way more important than Riddle grandstanding for her party.

We ALREADY have voter ID. You cannot register to vote without being being identified. You cannot vote without being registered. There is no reason to require additional documentation in order to vote. The system in place now is working.
If Rep. Riddle suggests we do not currently have voting integrity, she needs to produce evidence as to why, instead of trying to make our elections like Iraq's. And I mean evidence, not the BS talking points that have been used in the past 2 sessions to justify this measure.
Without evidence of a problem, this is a complete waste of legislator's time in a session that already faces a budget crisis and redistricting.

You have to prove your ID to vote already why do we need another law, that would be redundant.
Lets work on solutions to problems this is not a problem.

There is no evidence of any statistically meaningful voter fraud in Texas.

WARNING!
This is not a joke! Carry on reading! Or you will die, even if you only looked at the word warning!
Once there was a little girl called Clarissa, she was ten-years-old and she lived in a mental hospital, because she killed her mom and her dad. She got so bad she went to kill all the staff in the hospital so the government decided that... ... See MoreSee more... ... See MoreSee more... ... See MoreSee more... ... See MoreSee More... ... And she sat there in agony for hours until she finally died. Now every week on the day of her death she returns to the person that reads this letter, on a monday night at 12:00a.m. She creeps into your room and kills you slowly, by cutting you and watching you bleed to death.
Now send this to ten other pics on this one site, and she will haunt someone else who doesn't pass this on like you did. And forget about you. Example 1:
Jenny didn't believe this and deleted it without even reading the whole thing! A few days later on the monday night, she was woken up by loud footsteps and heavy breathing, there was Clarissa standing there with a huge knife and well Jenny is history now

Voter fraud started with LBJ. Last time I went to vote the person in front of me said they did not have their voter card. The person at the polls said "that's OK just tell me your name" He voted without showing them anything. You can cry wolf all you want and give all your disenfranchised arguments but voter fraud is a problem and there is a simple solution.

Blakely...why do you take the time to write such stupid stuff on the Texas Tribune newspaper???
Mary Lynn VanZandt Neill via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Might as well go back to the "poll tax".
Bob Brown via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Mac, even in your anecdote there is no evidence of wrong doing. You have no proof of voter fraud. The Texas AG spent thousands of our tax dollars to investigate fraud and came up with virtually nothing. This is a problem in Republican imagination, in a thinly veiled attempt to keep citizens of limited means from voting.

Voter fraud started... with LBJ? Are you kidding me?
