Combs, Patterson Spar Over Ruling on State Incentives
A new legal opinion about how state incentive money can be used prompted a new round of sparring Friday between Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson and Comptroller Susan Combs, who could face off in a 2014 race for lieutenant governor.
At issue is whether Combs overstepped over her authority when she told Formula One auto racing promoters in a letter two years ago that the state would provide $25 million a year to support the group’s efforts to build a track in Austin. At issue is her total incompetence at revenue estimating. The "surpluses" we see now SHOULD have been projected and the funds SHOULD have been applied for the budget.

Unfortunately, it's been a long time since competence really mattered in being successfully elected in Texas -- what matters most now is the particular deep-money friends you have and whether you've parlayed the "go along and get along to get ahead" game with that crowd into a favored position by parroting all the right sentiments in rising up through the ranks while carrying the water for their pet projects without screwing up or exposing those at the topmost levels of the oligarchy which really runs this state to scrutiny of any investigative journalist with guts who is outside the system.
Neither Combs nor Patterson are outliers or rebels in that system.

Perhaps if Susan Combs puts Confederate flags on the cars, then Patterson will like it better. Patterson is the worst Land Commissioner EVER!
