Governor's Plan to Run Could Impede Attorney General
Gov. Rick Perry might run for re-election in 2014, and he could run again for president in 2016.
Isn’t this familiar?
Three years ago, as the legislative session began in January, politically minded Texans talked about whether it would be Perry’s last ride as governor. Lobbyists wondered openly whether they were dealing with a lame duck.
Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison was quietly talking to advisers about a 2010 race for governor, presumably hoping to step into the office after Perry stepped out.
Now it’s Greg Abbott, the state’s attorney general, who is quietly talking about working ...

I disagree that Hutchison didn't "stand a chance." Before the race, wasn't she ahead of Gov. Perry by over 20 points? She certainly had a chance. She just blew it with a weak campaign.

I'd cross over in the primary to vote against Perry or Abbott. Both havee been ineffective and neither deserves another shot at living on tax dollars.

Unless you want to talk about all those tyrannical Repubs being out of office, I don't want to hear about them.

Neither of these right wingers should be running this state!

Abbott has been sniffing around the guv job for at least five years, according to one of my sources. I resent that Abbott is wasting taxpayer money on filing these lawsuits on hot button issues just to appeal to his base.

Wheel him off the stage...

Rick Perry has been a lame ferrel hog this whole term.

I kept looking for the joke in here about a race between a lame duck and a jerk in a wheelchair, but there is no humor in this story. Whether Perry 'runs' or Abbott rolls over him, the result is the same: Texas will still have a hypocrite and a lame excuse for a governor.

Texas can't afford perry. Another run for election hopefully will end his political "career" forever. I know the DPS will be sad to lose their money mentor, but what has perry done for Texas? Most Texans had never heard rick speak or saw him involved in anything worthwhile as governor. Then he ran for pres. and the truth came out. OMG. Winning the governorship because of apathetic voters by a stunning percentage of 39 is very telling. Register to vote Texas, and boot this money grubbing, sell Texas for a buck Rick Perry!

Screw Abbott. He's worse than Perry.

Greg Abbott will make a great governor!! He's been standing up for Texans against the feds. We just need to make sure we find a good AG...

BTW, George the federal gov't is suing Texas, also.

Perry should retire...He doesn't do a thing for Texas!

I think Perry used up his political clout running for President. Numerous times during the debates he looked like an idiot. I think it's time for Rick to adios into retirement.

I think it's time for a new law in Texas prohibiting the Governor and restricting the number of years to no more than 2 terms and no more than a maximum of 10 years. It's time Perry found some other way to line his pockets than at the expense of Texans. Further I also believe it's time to cap the number of years that someone can be in public service and elected to no more than 25 years total. What that would mean is if you served the State as a employee for 20 years, you could not hold State office for more than 5 after you retired from your State job or quit. Can't be a elected official for 25 years and then run for Governor, no more than a total of 25 years in public service.
