For Perry, Quitting is Not an Option
No phrase sums up Rick Perry’s political DNA better than this one: He has never lost an election. But after an awful fifth-place showing in Iowa, and top aides telling him he should consider pulling out of the presidential race, the specter of a first defeat has come into focus.
Here's the problem: Perry does not really know how to lose.
“Setbacks are unknown to him,” said Bill Miller, a veteran Texas lobbyist and consultant. “He has no experience with it. He’s never quit because he’s never lost.”
For a few hours following his drubbing in ...

I suspect there are a lot of beneficial impulses that are not in Rick Perry's DNA.

Ironic, isn't it - that a man who has been running for office (and winning elections) since 1984 considers himself the "anti-government" candidate. Although, he has done a lot to destroy effective government in Texas.

This man is the classic Aggie joke: no real talent but bluster, no leadeship and the big time crony of big money. He has not lost and election becasue of the ridiculous habit of Texas voters to pull the "R" lever without thinking.
Texas had been the butt of many an undererved joke over the years, but this one we seserve.

he is in total denial about the state of health care, education, poverty and most other things that affect the rest of us - so he is in denial about this too. Surprise, surprise! He lives in his own little ignorant, blinders on, world.

the late night tv hosts (leno, et al) are barely cracking jokes anymore. it's like they feel they're beating up on a 7-year-old. which goes only with he doesn't know how to lose and he never learned how to play well with other kids on the playground.

not sure it's "grit" exactly, jay. maybe single-mindedness or ego, or just a hefty bank account and nothing for him back in texas that is anywhere near as all-consuming and interesting as is a run for president.
when the history of the 2012 election is written, however, rick perry will not feature as any kind of hero or "come from behind" candidate. he will be an also-ran, like bachmann and cain. but for now, the game is still in innings and I have to say, as a long-time committed democrat, it's some of the most entertaining stuff out there.

RICK PERRY will be the next POTUS because he is the best man for the job, and won't need any OJT. The DEM liberals posting here will not have their "messiah" any more.

RUPERT MURDOCH say's he is endorsing SANTORUM...what he is actually doing, is making sure the CONSERVATIVE VOTE STAY'S SPLIT...long enough for RINO ROMNEY to string some victories together, while knocking out other candidates.
After SANTORUM eventually pulls out...RUPERT MURDOCH will then offer SANTORUM a lucrative contract as an analyst for FOX News. MURDOCH will then endorse RINO ROMNEY, after he has effectively split the conservative vote.
The lame liberal MSM is being played by RUPERT MURDOCH, KARL ROVE, and along with Bush surrogates.
The establishment GOP, the "good ol' boys," are sticking a knife in the back of the TEA PARTY MOVEMENT, and double-crossing them, after their efforts to elect conservative Representatives in 2010.
The GOP is planning the death of the TEA PARTY MOVEMENT...and the gains of 2010 will disappear.

I am proud to call Rick Perry my governor for these past 11 years. He is the most fiscal and social conservative in the race. The proof is in the pudding .... Everyone knows that Texas is the "Jobs State" ... Perry has governed the 13th largest economy in the world and very successfully. I couldn't say it all as well as this website does ... I suggest you read it ... If you are a Texan and still living in Texas under Gov. Perry's leadership, then you surely must be benefiting under his leadership as well !!

Mire likely quitting is not in Anita's DNA. Now we know why it took $10k just to house the governor. We also know why private jet service is required, and all those handsome Texas Rangers are required to decorate her lawn.
Anita has told her Dick that he cannot EVER quit his race for president.

LISTEN UP ALL YOU SUPPORTERS
Fighting for Perry is fighting for America, one battle at a time
In addition to his incredible ability to govern , Perry is a military man, he is not going to quit fighting. , he is going forward and we, as his best soldiers, will follow him all the way into the battle ground and win it or get killed together.
I don’t want to read any whining, and discussion about how and why… next battle is in South Carolina, our commander is heading that way and we, his best soldiers, are going to follow him full force with all our ammunitions. I want everyone to take a week off and plan to be in SC starting next week-end.
Here we come South Carolina
sssdddd
Nancy,
You are exhibit naivete. You call for all his supporters to die with him in the fields of South Carolina, almost reminiscent of joining Lees campaign.
However these supporters are to a large degree politicians lined up to receive their next gravy check. These are the type of 'friends' that stab you in the back for 2 bits and a wink. They will not die for Anita, the real power behind Perry's crime machine, nor anyone else.
No the 'new confederacy will die, just like the original for the same reasons. A philosophy built on lies only fools those not worth fooling.
ava green
You libs might as well get used to it.
He's running and none of your disparaging remarks will deter him, nor his supporters.
You know that the usual libs in Texas are largely ignored by the rest of the state, don't you?
ava green
sssdddd, or rather Shannon, you're still posting? Even though you live in....Denver, you are still posting down here in Texas like you know our Governor.

At least you're making more sense than you were. Glad to have some facts
ava green
oops.....actually, I looked at your posts........still the same type of conspiracy things you were talking about before. :(
sssdddd
Ava,
Perry is not continuing to run out of bravery. He is continuing to run because he is whipped. Whipped by his woman Anita. Recent events have made this obvious.
Anita reversed his decision to quit in face of the obvious. Perry has already lost. Anita who does not have to bear phsychological torment of campaigining in a lost cause is the real force behind Perry.
So Perry is driven to do the impossible which will certainly drive him stark raving mad if he is not already. This is all the more reason to oppose him, not support him and fear him. For truly a madman is dangerous to all around him. Today we are seeing Perry being forced into a situation that could transform him from a mere dishonest politician to someone who is truly to be feared.
Perry is not the last hope of the religious right, the right or lib haters. Quite the contrary, there are a large number of equal or better men out there would would like the chance to run. Why take the chance with damaged good?
So I offer an alternative ...
Santorum ... Santorum ... Santorum

That's my sssddd. All insults, no facts. At least you're not calling me "evil" like you were.
Where do you get this info on Perry?
Be brave and take a look at "facts".......

sssdddd
Ava,
My lack of appraising you recently in now way indicates there in an improvement in your moral character.
The 'facts' that you propose are all nothing but Perry lies dressed up to be facts.
The fact is this single digit contender is on his last campaign breath and I aim to drive the knife home until he quits. I care not if he wants to salvage his despicable graft filled career in Texas, but his prospects have certainly dimmed considerable.
Oh by the way I read that Rick Perry was offering to lower his price for Texas favors. He will do two favors for the price of one. However the cost is still more than a measly $5,000. He will if donations come in prior to South Carolina throw in a coupon for one Federal favor if elected.
With an offer like that, Ava, how can you refuse to give him money???
Mike Snyder
This makes Mr. Perry's refusal to quit appear to be an attribute rather than a flaw. Perhaps he is too vain and too stupid to understand that in every card game all players eventually hold or fold. He can hold the cards that he's been dealt but all the praying in the world won't make aces out of deuces. The strategies he has used to keep his head above water in Texas simply don't extend outside the lone star state. Draw whatever conclusion you wish, but I believe that the one star Texans are always bragging about is similar to those supporting Mr. Perry: not very bright.

sssddd,(Shannon) more insults and refusing to even read the facts..... yeah! A really, really informed voter.
And, your continued spamming about.........Santorum (while accusing me of the same) makes you a hypocrite .
The only people that are deluded are the ones that won't look at the facts which are backed up by documented article, but continue to post the hateful uninformed comments are the ones that are "stupid".
All I can think of are Obama-enslaved Democrats, Republican establishment such as Rove, trial lawyers backed by the Democrat Underground, RINOs, etc. The rest are blind uninformed fools that take whatever the MSM and Fox (owned by Bain and Romney) tell them as truth. I often wondered how Hitler could take over a country so easily......I'm seeing it right in front of my eyes.
Lazy and stupid don"t make for a good Republic. It's people like you that will help us lose this Republic.
BTW, sssddd, Santorum is going to lose. He's made too many mistakes fresh out of the chute.
ava green
sssddd (Shannon), you are insane. Unbalanced and full of hatred.
I truly doubt that you even still have that job anymore in Colorado as people such as you do not last very long in jobs such as Public Relations Manager.
Maybe that's why you are so angry and unbalanced?
ava green
Michael Snyder, is this you? I see that you are a trial lawyer.
"Michael R. Snyder has become one of the foremost legal experts in the field of medical malpractice"
http://www.linkedin.com/pub/michael-snyder/5/A30/361
If so, the reason for your hatred is obvious. And, if so you are a part of the groups that are putting themselves ahead of the good of our country.
Are you friends with or connected to Greta Van Susteren's husband, John Coale, the lawyer that promised to organized trial lawyers to destroy Perry because of his tort reform (THANK YOdddddfrfU, GOD!!!) here in Texas? The same John Coale that supported Herman Cain? Talk about......"stupid"......
sssdddd
Ava,
Evidently I must have hit a nerve, exposed a truth that you find disquieting. For now you are attempting to attack me in the public world. YOu are putting yourself potentially in violation of the terms of these blog rights by doing so. If you persist in attempting to draw out my identity I will report you to The Tribune.
No I do not think Santorum is likely to win, but he is likely to take votes from rational people who would otherwise vote for Perry. I also find Santorum with his defense of Catholicism to be a voice that tempers hatred peddled by evangelicals.
I also have entered a phase of sincere pity for Mr. Perry. Mr. Perry it seems is an abused spouse. Spousal abuse by women, especially those that do not let men make their own career choices, is rampant in our good country. If this were a man, goading his woman into not quitting the feminists would be all up in arms. Why not now also defending men who are abused by women.
That said this will likely just drive Mr. Perry to be more nutty and desperate than he already is. This is how people are driven to do crazy despotic things. Now all those who activelly oppose Perry's presidential run are doing the man Mr. Perry a favor by helping remove him from the equation. Out of the equation for president means his wife cannot be pressuring him to achieve the impossible.
We can hope that this turns into a longer exposure that gives Mr. Perry a position someone's administration. I could think that maybe the toughest sherriff might be needing some deputies. Mr. Jindal might also be able to find a job for Perry overseeing gun practice ranges in Louisiana.
Oh and by the way Ava. I need to do lay in another line of attack below.
SANTORUM SANTORUM SANTORUM
ava green
sssddd, what nerve have you hit?
By posting unsubstaniated lies just as you've just done about Perry being an "abused spouse" ? LOL! You post drivel. Made up drivel. You don't even have any link to prove that anything you are saying comes from anywhere but your........"more nutty and desperate" attempts to "destroy Perry" as you've posted on other threads because he is "evil". Now, you are saying he's an "abused spouse"?? I've worked in the field, Shannon, and he's not abused by any stretch.
No nerve has been hit.......I'm just exposing you for what you are. Someone that doesn't deal in facts, just opinions and lies. Really a winning combo for anyone you are supporting.
ITOH, perhaps my telling you that Santorum has stumbled pricked a nerve in you? That's the reason for your threats?
Your identity is available to anyone who can google. Doesn't take a wizard to do so.
sssdddd
Ava,
I will report you for attempting to use people's real names in this blog.
This is a clear violation of people's right to remain anonymous. Unauthorized outing of sources has never been allowed by good journalists.
As for the abuse claim. Yes I am reading between the lines. The facts are:
1. Anita announced her Dick Perry would never give up the race for president. Importantly Rick Perry never said such a thing.
2. Mr. Perry announced what most took as moves towards imminent abdication of the race after poor Iowa showing. However only a few hours after being with wife convinced him he was staying in.
These are indications of abuse, not actual abuse. I will grant you that. However drivel it is not.
Ava, I also need to use this precious space to perform my normal last act.

sssccc,
a quote from RedState regarding your candidate. You would do well to get educated.
"Santorum also has the worst, most nanny state version
mbecker908 (Diary) Sunday, January 8th at 11:19AM EST (link)
of a tax plan that’s been discussed. Instead of simplifying the tax code, he’s turning it into a nightmare of compliance with his corporate tax separate rate for “manufacturing” and into an attempt to promote “social values” with his “family oriented” tax deductions and exemptions.
He also endorsed Arlen Specter. And, I’ll note I don’t give a rip about who any of the candidates have previously endorsed. But if I have to weight the endorsements, Specter is more negative than Hoffman is a plus.
Santorum is nothing but a big government, pro-life statist who will make us long for the “conservative” domestic policies of GWB."
