Perry's Not the Texas Front-Runner, UT/TT Poll Finds
It's a good thing Rick Perry says he's not running for president — only 4 percent of Texas Republicans say they'd vote for the governor, according to the latest University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll.
"This is a major question for a guy who's getting national buzz," says Daron Shaw, co-director of the poll and a government professor at UT. "He hasn't convinced Texans that he's a presidential front-runner."
Not that he's trying to. Perry has said repeatedly that he's not a presidential candidate without squelching campaigns to draft him as one.

This is a case of someone who knows he has said things and done things that will be serious liabilities if he ever runs for president, but is so power hungry that he does not want to foreclose the opportunity. However he has powerful supporters including this rag who would benefit greatly if a controversial presidential candidate were to emerge from it's bowels.
What has Perry done that is so despised? Well it seems almost everything he does is despicable except here in Texas, a place where the water and Willie Nelson's stash are suspect as the reason for his positive job approval.
One only needs to look at his statements:
1. Declaration of Harris country as fire disaster zone. In case you are wondering Harris county is almost entirely Houston, our nations forth largest city. If Houston were in a fire disaster zone do you think it might make evening news? CNN? Huffington Post? No it did not but Mr. Perry who is drinking some Travis County water or maybe smoking dope from Willies stash (the only Texan who has a free license to smoke weed) seems to think it important to tell those evil beaucrats in Washington D.C. Houston is going up in smoke.
2. Secession. Now notwithstanding the nutty legal theories to justify this, think about who populates Texas? We are home the largest contingent Hispanics in the country. What if these people voted to go back to Mexico? What then? Would we have to wage another war of independence?
3. Doing battle with the EPA. Not only does big business not want to do battle with the EPA but there are parts of this country that have benefitted from EPA rules. EPA has saved our Northeastern forests, made air breathable in Cleveland and reduced smog in Los Angeles. It may seem anthemic to Houstonites with trade winds a blowing every day from the gulf of mexico to worry about a little benzene in the air, but big business insurers know the risks are real even if the health effects cannot be proven today. So while a few shit kickers may feel good about kicking up EPA all the while Pecan industry is going extinct in West Texas, the short answer is the primary beneficiaries of kicking EPA do not want EPA to be kicked.
This is political charade intent upon finding a crack to squeeze a slick politician through the cracks like a cockroach. However getting through the crack is the easy part, remaking onesself from Texas Baffon to national presidential candidate is however may be a task that may be beyond those cocaine snorting marketers hailing from Austin.
Maybe if Mr. Perry were to simply man up and apologize to the country for his absurd positions he might put to rest any speculation he would run for office. Then maybe this rag would not see fit to promote the presidential un-campaign (and their readership prospects) by calling those who do not believe a proven liar nincompoops.

Really Texas? Sarah Palin? I got nothing.

Seriously, you think this is a swipe at Perry - IT'S NOT, we know he's NOT running. For goodness sake, stop showing how much you don't like this man. It's so clear!

It's sad to see the two candidates I would most likely vote for at 1%. Sigh...

Perry is still waiting to see if he can beat Obama before jumping into the race. (Obviously he doesn't think he can beat him just yet.) Personally, I think he is the only Republican that could. If he runs. If not, 4 more years of Obama.

The don't know and other votes give me hope.

If I had to choose between Rick Perry and B. Hussein Obama I'd vote third party.

Palin? Really? If I were capable of being more embarrassed by the state of politics in Texas, I would be.

Four More Years!

I'm more surprised that anyone's surprised by the results -- this is the state that put George W. Bush and Rick Perry in the governor's mansion repeatedly. Until Texas' demographics start turning out the vote in proportion to their numbers, it's all about name recognition, that Southern quality, inflammatory rhetoric, and little more.
The bigger surprise is Gingrich being as high up, but the poll was probably taken before his latest round of self implosions. Still, if it's of any consolation, it's merely a temporary ranking of who's going to lose the election, albeit win the state (likely by a similar margin as last time).

No matter how you slice that list of Republican candidates, Eeeeeeek.

Really tiresome to read drivel like "...O's weakness has created." Yes! We all know that President Obama inherited the land of milk and honey, a virtual utopia created by Republicans that love America with altruistic delight. A real resume? His success in operating a pizza company qualifies him to deal with and offer solutions for world affairs? I think he a contentious bag of very hot air.
I would love sometime for the Obama haters to offer a fact based critique with non-abstract reasons for their vitriol. Don't say he is a socialist without providing examples. Absolutely no proof that he is a "Muslim"! I could go on and on, but....

Once again Ross Ramsey shows his liberal bias. When you see the article is by Ross Ramsey you can count on the fact it will be anti Perry or anti GOP.

As much as I can't stand Gov Hairdo I must say that Palin would be so much worse!

Mac, I did not find this particularly anti-Perry. If anything it promotes the dark horse candidate by putting his name out there for free. If what you mean by being anti-GOP or anit-Perry is not submitting statements to the party apparatus for approval prior to printing then I guess you have a point. But then what could be said is that it is not pro-Perry. So it seems therefore you are a person so blinded blinded by partisan rhetoric and cannot stand to read anything save wingnut propaganda. I truly do feel sorry for you.
This Perry guy probably is like Donald Trump anyway and is only doing this stealth campaign to enhance his bankroll. Handled well a non-campaign for president has a history of enriching failed participants. Obama is likely to win if the economy continues to improve.
The best thing a person could do to stop Obama would be to stop spending money up until the election. Also do not give political contributions to either party as all that presidential spending booms the economy and is therefore good for incumbents.
Rudy Gonzales
We don't want him in Texas, much less in Washington!

Have to say I am somewhat confused. Bill White, who won over 90% of the vote in Houston's last mayor election he ran in, including republicans that was reported, that liked him, voted for Perry, for Gov.? Then it was reported only 4% republicans would support Perry? UMMMMM..........?
Is this all purposely suppose to be confusing ?
