Perry May Not Be Done With the National Stage
Sarah Palin got a reality show. Hillary Clinton is secretary of state. Mike Huckabee is on the radio and TV. Rudy Giuliani’s name is still on the door of that giant law firm.
What will Rick Perry’s second act be?
He has nearly three years, including another legislative session, left in his current term as governor. He opened and closed his presidential run with a message that’s still relevant in national politics and probably useful to the Republicans once their nomination battle is over.
It’s not the jobs thing. It’s the federalism thing. Perry’s ...

Oh, he's done. Might try that stand-up comedienne bit, but he sucks at that too. He looks OLD.
John Preston
Stick a fork in him--he's DONE. But what is most amazing is that the folks from the great State of Texas managed to elect this person 3 times, the most of any previous Governor, as our Governor. The egg is over all our faces.

"It's the federalism thing." Governor Perry is all for letting the states control their own destiny, until that destiny includes something he doesn't like, such as abortion, stringent concealed-carry laws, and same-sex marriage - then he's all in favor of federal legislation or constitutional amendments.
Despite all his blather about individual freedom, states' rights, and liberty, Perry's just another "everyone's entitled to my opinion and I'll pass a law to prove it" politician who wants control over every aspect of peoples' lives.

how does the fact that he took his "retirement" or whatever that money was affect his ability to do his job in TX? Does it affect eligibility?

are you effing kidding me? I hope whatever benefits accrue from ass-kissing this disgraced moron are worth your credibility Ross. pathetic. utterly pathetic. OOPS.

I'm just hoping that after he's made such a train wreck of himself that the rest of the people of Texas open their eyes to this and realize that he needs to be gone! I also think that after his "never ending" terms, we need to change that and set a limit on the number of terms that a governor can serve! I had so many people tell me "Why change a good thing that works?" when the last election came around.... I sure hope that they see that this ISNT working!

Oh you guys go to hell, and leave this honorable man alone. He was and is the only hope for this country. I am with Gov. perry all the way till Nov. 2012. and beyand.

Did he just not get his ass kicked hard enough, or is he completely delusional?
Adam W Vanek via Texas Tribune on Facebook
No. He's done. Really. He's done. That Oops moment will forever go down in the history books of best/worst debate moments along with Dan Quayle's Kennedy moment, Walter Mondale's failed age snipe at Ronald Reagan, and Jim Stockdale's hearing aide.

He still lost, he got shown up for what a fool he is. I have to suspect he may not be as successful in Texas as he once was.

I vote that we recall Rick Perry,He hasn't done in work in Texas for months, but still he receives pay.
We continue to pay for his $10.000 a month mansion, then there's his retirement money when he is
not retired. While he wants to cut money for everyone else, the poor, disabled, etc What about his waste ?
I vote he be recalled as Gov. and fired for deserting hispost as governor. He is absolutely not worth
the taxpayers money he is costing us every month.

for you idiots who don't know or care.. that man is loved by many He is not what you perceive him to be he had back surgery prior to going into the race because so many thought he was the right man for this country and he should have waited until his back was healed but there was no time for that.. the country was more important ..that man was in a lot of pain but never never did he complain he kept going. He was absolutely not going to let it stop him and his debate performances showed that he is human not like the rest of the people on that stage that have been running for years in the national arena . It is just down right hateful for anyone to think this man is an idiot . There are many supporters of Gov Perry from Texas and the rest of the country who will stand with him until the end no matter what he chooses to do . He exited the race with dignity and he is a man of honor and you should be ashamed

It's like one of those old movies of the Romans. The King returns to cheering crowds and lots of bowing and A-kissing. However, With King Perry return from the political war, those crowds are replaced by all the $150K + salary cronies he appointed over the years. That is what I call leverage. The phoney e-mails are flying now, "Welcome back! We miss you!" It's never too late to start working for the people of TX.

Another mole whacked.

Belinda, I don't think it's hateful to question Perry's intelligence.
And I'm not ashamed of myself for saying that, by the way.

TD-Rick Perry is as slow as two turtles mating.Intelligent LOL

Despite everything that happened, Perry still is the most powerful political figure in Texas and the others will bow down and kiss his feet --- if they know what's good for them.
I really wish Texans would get a little smarter and get rid of the guy in 2014/15. His hundreds of appointees need to be thrown out of their cushy jobs.
The problem is that we don't want to replace Perry with another pseudo or neo-conservative. There are rumors that AG Greg Abbott may run for Governor. Here is another control freak that will be bad for the majority of Texans.
Save Texas and "Remember the Alamo!"

Perry Dorrell via Texas Tribune on Facebook
I think he should pay the state back for the expenses of his security detail and resign the governorship. There's bound to be fat lobbyist paycheck for him somewhere. That way, Perry can raise money for his 2016 presidential bid, and Greg Abbott can be governor. *shudder*
RICHARD PRICE
Call it whatever you want to. It was these guys who had the word of law changed so they could call their bribes, campaign contributions. Until private funding for public office ends, it doesn't matter who wins, we all lose

Do we have the dumbest governor in the USA,we are going to recall and fire him.Ricky how
soon do you want us to buy you a ticket back to Paint Creek ? just keep pushing us
and you will be back home slopping hogs and milking goats sooner than you would like.

1. Broke state Government, but it's the President's fault,
2. States rights, unless they allow same sex marriage,
3. He wants to destroy social security, but here he is 3 years from the end of his term and he's already
taking retirement early,
4. He's all about cutting schools to balance the budget, yet he lives in a $10,000/month mansion on the
state money,
5. He walks away with a multi-million dollar campaign chest, and yet we get to pay $2.7 million for his
security:
Clearly for Rick Perry (and most of the GOP), HYPOCRISY has become a FAMILY VALUE.
Leon Drozd
Perry is so gung-ho about Texas, why doesn't he return to Texas and live happily ever after? Is he still being chased by demons even after that well-orchestrated and well-funded run for office?
As this observer sees it, Perry, his campaign and the good people of Texas just got used, i.e, exploited, big time by somebody.
Perry should consider moving up to Dallas and chew the fat with George W. or go hang out with some of those rich church poo-bahs who live high off the hog. Maybe they'll help raise money for a Rick Perry building at Texas A&M or elsewhere.
How about moving somewhere so he can watch the grass grow and think about the experience he has had and see if he can see a bigger picture of the the world, America and himself, and perhaps how he can have a positive and productive impact? There's plenty of time to reinvent oneself and perhaps without the pressures. Perry could come out of this a "new man" with some new ideas.
This notion of continuing to the national stage is what is so sick about American politics today. The candidates get full of themselves, the dogma that defines them and their gig turns into a guzzling money enterprise. They can't let go and transition themselves back to a normal life and lifestyle. To top it off, their families, friends and campaign workers get so invested in the momentum that they can't let go either. They paint themselves into a narrow-minded corner of the world such that they desperately needs to move on.
Does Perry need to get out of Texas?
Is the contemplation of "national stage" a sign that the grass is truly greener on the other side of the fence?
Is this the only exit point for him and his campaign workers? Have those campaign workers burned so many bridges that are in fact the ones that need to keep their candidate equpped with a fresh Everready batteries ? Who runs who here? Does Perry run the campaign workers or the campaign workers run Perry?
True leaders inspire other leaders.

A pundit? Are you kidding? After his debate performances?
The best he can hope for is an ambassadorship to some safe, bland country that wouldn't think a man who names his boots and runs with loaded pistols stuck in his shorts is just too weird. I can't think of such a country now, but one might come to me. One without any Latinos or blacks or Asians or foreigners of any stripe.
