"Oops" Happens in New Rick Perry Ad
Chances are, you haven't forgotten that oft-mocked moment from a recent debate where Rick Perry tried to name the three federal departments he'd eliminate but could only name two. Neither has Perry.
Tonight, he'll be appearing on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. At the top of the show and immediately following it, viewers in Iowa will be treated to a new campaign ad in which Perry makes light of the flub.
"You know, we've all lost our train of thought before, but not many've done it on national TV," he said.
While he acknowledges ...

Adding to my list of things I don't want Rick Perry for:
Debate Team - Check
President - Check
Commedian - Check
Governor - Oops.

For the record, on Oct. 28, 2011, Gov. Perry had an excellent 71-minute video interview with the editorial board of the NH Union Leader.
Anyone who took the time to watch the entire 25 minute speech Perry later gave as the keynote address for NH Cornerstone's annual fundraiser (including the 440 people who were there) knew that Perry started with Proverbs 15:13 "A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance". A Paulbot edited the viral version because Perry did a Ron Paul impression when he was talking about Gold.
One of the attendees on Oct. 28 is the speaker of the NH House, who introduced Gov. Perry on Nov. 30, 2011 for this impressive 15 minute speech - no clues about footwear, but great use of Daniel Webster's eulogy on the deaths of John Adams and Thomas Jefferson:

I adore Perry. I love a man that can admit his flub up and laugh over it ! SO admirable... ! I don't want a slick talker or a shiny debater... I want a Leader. A Patriot. Somebody that loves the American people and will uphold the Constitution... A person that knows foreign and domestic issues. Somebody the rest of the World can and will respect. No bowing or scraping or apologizing to the World, PLEASE ! Haven't we all had enough of that?

I don't want a part-time Congress, I want one that is always working. I don't want a flat tax, I want a tax that is fair to all. I do want someone who is alert and has enough brain cells to hold their own and debate issues. This is a republic a democracy you should be able to debate the issues and your point of view, if I want a dicator then I would want someone that couldn't debate.

@KqKz - I don't need to see interviews. Because I have seen Perry's stump speeches. I know what his stances are. I also know that for interviews, he can be coached and prepared.
Debating is an ability to see other things from a candidate:
A. how well you think on your feet
B. how well you know what you are talking about
C. how well you process information
D. how well you make snap decisions
In most all cases, Rick has been not only tripped up but has horribly fumbled too. He has lost his temper, lost his talking points and not even stayed focused to the questions being asked.
@Nancy - I have no problem if he flubbed over simple things, and I get exactly what you say about being able to be embarrassed and laugh about it. Good quality? Sure, admirable, maybe.
But like it or not, this is a job interview. And any job candidate that came in a was as unprepared as he has been for this would not get a job. These aren't simple flubs. This is a man not even knowing his own talkig points, platforms, or facts about our country.
And honestly, you are going with "love of America" as your reason to go with him? Do you honestly thing ANYONE that runs for president doeesn't love their own country, The United States? And what about the rest of your talking points:
* I don't want a slick talker - funny, this is EXACTLY what Rick Perry is.
* or a shiny debater - certainly not that, but really, see my points to Kq above on that, basically, the job interview thing.
* I want a Leader - Rick Perry is this
* A Patriot - look up the definition, it goes with the love of coutry thing. Like I said, anyone that wants to be President is already this.
* will uphold the Constitution - Perry is very much up in the air on this one. Many of his constitutional views are questionable, as are some of his actions.
* A person that knows foreign and domestic issues - Rick is failing in this one badly. Just look at the handling of the execution of Humberto Leal Jr as one example. His debate performance and some of his talking point have given others.
* Somebody the rest of the World can and will respect - I understand the "CAN" respect, but "WILL" respect? Uh, no. Being respected is something earned. You don't TAKE respect, and you certainly don't demand respect.
* No bowing or scraping or apologizing to the World, PLEASE ! Haven't we all had enough of that? Actually No, we have to act in a respectful manner to other countries. If we don't, then we certainly should expect any other country to do the same. And if our country makes a mistake, I expect us to own up to it.
We might be the biggest kid on the block, but we can't just do whatever we want. We have to show that we are worthy of the rest of the world to look up at us. You can't force others to do that. Like I said, respect isn't taken, it is earned.
@John - right on.
In the end, he can do whatever he wants to now, it doesn't matter, Perry in this race (and probably for the Presidency all time) is done. He has shown an unpreparedness for this job. And we aren't talking about, "right candidate, wrong time", we are talking about a man that flat out is not fit to lead our country.

For Ron Blancarte
I concure with most everything you stated, I have a difference of opinion with you on "Actually No, we have to act in a respectful manner to other countries. If we don't, then we certainly should expect any other country to do the same. And if our country makes a mistake, I expect us to own up to it.
We might be the biggest kid on the block, but we can't just do whatever we want. We have to show that we are worthy of the rest of the world to look up at us."
I don't believe we need to ask for or appoligize for anything. I also don't think we need to admit we are ever wrong. We are truly the world's only super power, we need to act like it. Funny don't you think that as soon as Mr. I Applogize for every took office, the Russian (Soviet Union) started flexing, as have all other countries. What we don't understand and have never gotten right is that we are the big kid on the block, as such we do not have to do things as others. The world respects power, we are that power. That doesn't mean we go around beat all others over the head, but, it does me that we never back down or away. In other words, there is a price to be paid for being the biggest, badest on the planet, others wise you just become someone elses meal.

I hate to say it, but it's a damned near perfect ad.
[And yes, I have a degree in advertising.]
It humanized him.
He admitted his boo boo [RARE for politicians] showed a sense of humor & nailed 3 bullet points on what he wanted to do in Washington. I don't see how it could have been better.
