Texas Lobbyist Mike Toomey is Force Behind Rick Perry
Behind every politician there are men and women working in the wings, operatives who can make calls, fix problems, raise money, punish enemies.
In Rick Perry’s world, one man stands above them all: Mike Toomey.
Intense and reclusive, Toomey is not well known outside of a few square blocks around the Texas Capitol. But within them, he is respected and feared for his keen intellect, tough political tactics and his longstanding partnership with the longest continuously serving governor in the United States.
Should Perry, who is seeking the Republican presidential nomination, reach the White House, it will be in ...

Headlines of the Future: "Mike Toomey, the new chief of staff at the Perry White House belaying the notion that anyone could be more inept, conservative, pugnacious and self serving than the Bush White House, announced today that all legilative bills will first have to be vetted by him personally to assess the value of the sponsor's campaign contributions to President Perry."

For all that Toomey might be brilliant, he hasn't gotten through to Mr. & Mrs.Governor that the reason Perry's mumbers are way down is because he's thrown it in the faces of the American people that he's pro-amnesty (or as he would call it "Comprehensive Immigration Reform"). In-state tuition of illegal kids? They need to be educated so that they're not a drain on society? How about the fact that they should even be here. With the great education they may receive as a result this affordable program, they still can't legally work in this state of any other. It's not a few of us in Texas who showed in Austin to testify this past session who are against illegal immigration and who are a minor irritation and inconvenience for Perry, it's his voter base in America that are against illegal immigration. Perry and his advisors need to wake up, get in touch with the American people and stop listening to his big money contributors that insist we need and want illegals in this country. Now, we have Mrs. Governor whining that the media and the Republican party are being mean to their family. Well, the media hates all things Republican and even remotely conservative (moderate or otherwise). As the saying goes - if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen". When he loses the party Presidential nomination, I have to wonder how he will fare when he runs for Governor again since he's shown he so out of touch with his constituants.

The Perry ship has sailed as has Ron Paul's. For those of you who don't know Ron is Paul's middle name. His full name is "Crazy Ron Paul".

Thanks for this helpful story about a man behind the throne.

For the Ron Paul fans, Paul is actually a libertarian who can't win on the libertarian ticket (because no libertarian can win in Texas). I worked with the libertarian party in California several years ago. The libertarian party may be for small government, but on social issues there's no difference between them and the democrats. They are for legaliztion of drugs and prostitution, pro-choice (except Ron Paul), pro-gay marriage and pro open borders. Not what we need in the white house.

Your headline suggests that you see Toomey as "the man behind the current" and Perry as the projected image...I can accept that characterization if you insist, but, personally, I have also thought of Perry being more like the Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass--You know someone who can say (and perhaps even believe) 20 impossible things before breakfast. I may have to reconsider if his campaign continues to tank…Perhaps he is really more like Humpty-Dumpty.

Oops...That's the "man behind the curtain"...
