Gaffe-Prone Perry Flubs Supreme Court Answer
Gov. Rick Perry has done it again.
In an editorial board interview with the Des Moines Register on Friday, the presidential candidate whose “oops” was heard around the world flubbed the name of a U.S. Supreme Court justice and gave the wrong number of judges on the high court.
Perry was trying to criticize liberal "activist" judges on the Supreme Court, but he struggled to produce a name.
"Uh, uh," he stammered, and then paused before saying, "not Montemayor." He looked out toward someone in the meeting and was thrown a lifeline.
"Sonia Sotomayor?" a woman can be heard ...

It's like charades with this guy.
Only he's supposed to have the answers--not be the one who says "Okay . . . rhymes with filet du jour. . ."

For the love of all things good, maybe don't criticize someone whose name you can't even get straight. I think that rule of thumb would go a long way in keeping Perry's mouth shit...

Shut! I mean shut. Sorry

That's almost as stupid as our current president not knowing how many states are in the union.

I would say Rick Perry is a moron, but it would be redundant.

Can you please just stop. Perry's campaigned for Texas Supreme Court may very well be the end to our Public Beaches and he had taken this perversion national!

What a schmuck. Perry is damaging Texas by his campaign. Stop already.

Everybody's overreacting. Read/watch it agan: "I trust those independent school districts to make those decisions better than eight unelected, and frankly, unaccountable judges."
Clearly there's one judge that he trusts to make decisions better than the school districts.

...or maybe one judge was elected and is accountable?

I wish people would stop criticizing Gov. Perry. He is the best the GOP has to offer.

Next time he has to answer a question that involves counting, he should consult the four wise men.

What a dumb shit Ricky is. Doesn't he understand that the SUPCO justices are supposed to be unaccountable? It's the genius of the Founding Fathers and it's called checks and balances.

Perry is like an Onion article continually writing itself.

I agree with Taylor Harris - this is almost as stupid as Obama mis-stating the number of states.
But combined with Oops, not knowing the voting age, not knowing election day, etc Rick has Obama beat by a mile.

Delightful to see Good Hair out in the American public. Never understood why we elected him for ten years. And his wife says the press is unfair. Put a muzzle on him Blondie.

Having watched Texas Governor Rick Perry's discussion of the first amendment in which he flubbed Supreme Court Justice Sotomeyer's name, I find Perry's substantive remarks rather chilling.
Perry accused the Obama Administration of a war on religion. This inspite of the fact that there have been no federal executive policy announcements or judicial decisions injurious to religion stemming from this Administration. Perry is wrong in his charge.
Perry cites Sotomeyor for activism on the court and implies that this activism is axiomatically injurious to religion while failing to provide any substantiation for either charge.
In response to the danger from judicial activists and activist judges, Perry states that the first amendment prohibition against the establishment of religion should be superseded by private judgments or state action in regard to public displays of religiousity.
Given Perry's very public dedication to evangelical Christianity these points of view are disturbing.
Instead of the constitutional protections of freedom of relighon, Perry advocated private groups or the States as the arbiters of freedom.
How many would agree that the pastor of the biggest or most popular church in his or her community should be the one deciding what religious practices publicly funded institutions should follow?
How many agree that the State of Texas, or California, or Nevada instead of the constitution should determine their degree of religious freedom?
Under Perry's concept of religious freedom what is there to stop an evangelical state governor from mandating a religious preference in the award of state contracts, employment or any of the state's other myriad activities?
Perry offered a very serious disquistion of his views on religious freedom in this video segment and they are inimical to the scope of religious freedom most of us take for granted.

As a Native Texan, it saddens me no end that our intellect-challenged, crooked as the day is long, execution-loving (especially innocent men who could have been spared), gay bashing / gay hating / living on the DL "good Christian" poster boy for Evangelical Dumbf**cks--and Texas Aggie spokesmodel extraordinaire--will never in a million years have the opportunity to doggedly search for that glimmering penny in the corner of the Oval Office.

Rick, that laughter your hearing is all of us Democrats laughing our butts off at your pathetic failure of a campaign, and your desperate futile attempts to turn it around. Please keep running, we need the laughs, and the Democrats needs the votes!
