Cain Edges Perry in New UT/TT Poll
Gov. Rick Perry is statistically tied with businessman Herman Cain among Republican presidential primary voters in his home state of Texas, with the rest of the GOP candidates well behind the leaders, according to the new University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll.
Cain got 27 percent to Perry's 26 percent among Texas registered voters who identify themselves as Republicans. U.S. Rep. Ron Paul was next with 12 percent, followed by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney at 9 percent and former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 8 percent. The other Republican primary candidates — Michele Bachmann, Jon Huntsman ...

Well, what would you expect? All them ignorant, simple-minded Tixins elected good hair to office over and over. You think all of a sudden all those stupid Tixins would get some knowledge and begin to think rationally? I dun think so. Too many mega churches with too many con men and scammers saving the sinners down here in Tixish and feeding folks their holy-roler stupidity. Makes fer good pandering by ole good hair.

Texas has an open primary, which might not usually matter, but in a year when there is no meaningful Democratic primary for the presidential race, and a top candidate (Ron Paul) who specifically dominates with independents, it seems your poll might poll 'those planning to vote/caucus for a Republican candidate' rather than 'those who consider themselves Repbublican'. At a time when, nationally, independent voters outnumber Republicans, this becomes more and more important. Is over a third of the nation supposed to be disenfranchised?

To "d f" (as in dumb %$#*), Texans are leading the nation in job creation, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Please keep your ignorant prejudices and insecurities to yourself.
With regard to the article and latest Tribune poll showing Cain in the lead, I believe this is a strong indication that Texans are wise enough to evaluate the merits of our own governor rather than simply support him because he's from Texas. I was particularly impressed with the 53% of respondents who stated they were "extremely interested" in politics and public policy this year. The worst outcome for President Obama will be the result of a majority of the electorate being extremely interested in politics and public policy because those with such a great interest will find out sooner or later that Obama's politics and policies have prolonged and exacerbated our problematic U.S. economy.
And for liberals like dumb %$#* who believe Bush and capitalism are to blame for our economic woes, please at least try to recognize that sub prime mortgage lending which led to the enormous failure of our financial services industry was largely the result of Democratic leadership in Congress. The Community Reinvestment Act and subsequent amendments were the backbone of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac creating government backed sub prime mortage loans for millions of Americans. Large private lenders were guaranteed federal support and financial backing on questionable loans made to low income Americans and middle income Americans who wanted a higher "standard of living." Basically, Democrats wanted everyone to have a house even if they couldn't afford it, and so the government made law supporting and propping up sub prime mortgage lending leading to the economic catastrophe in 2008. And then bailed out the debt laden banks--that's not capitalistic at all.
Instead of focusing on the economy and the fundamentals of private sector business growth that drives the economy, President Obama spent his first two years in office with a Democrat controlled House and Senate to pass the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare entitlement program), Dodd-Frank Act (costly financial services regulatory law), 7 year Drilling Moratorium (stifling the energy sector), and 900 billion dollar "stimulus" package (spent nearly $200,000 for each job created or "saved") while effectively increasing taxes on middle class families to help pay for it all. Anyone wonder why the economy continues to struggle under Obama's leadership? Those "extremely interested" respondents know who they should not vote for--Obama. And nearly 60% of Texans disapprove of his job thus far.

Bear in mind the survey carries a 4.5% margin of error, and it's an internet survery rather than a telephone poll.
