Garcia's Congressional Campaign May Upend Burnam's Bid
For state Rep. Lon Burnam, there’s the opponent on the ballot officially running against him and the one who might as well be.
The Fort Worth Democrat is facing a primary challenge — his first in 16 years — from Carlos Vasquez, a Fort Worth school board member. But the bigger threat to Burnam’s re-election could be Domingo Garcia, a former state representative from Dallas who is running for a congressional seat that includes most of Burnam’s House District 90.
Garcia has vowed to put his campaign resources into increasing Hispanic turnout across the newly drawn Congressional District 33 ...

Lon Burnam has stood up to terrible bullies in the state legislature who don't care about the working people and don't care about education. I know him only as my representative, but I've never met a more sincere politition in my life. I've met many and he's the most honest, hard working, sincere representative of all the people. When I read the comment we need someone to "work with both parties" I hear loud and clear the message that that person wouldn't stand up for the people and fight for us like Lon. I think that's political speak for selling us out. We need to keep the best person in office. If we only vote for people of our own skin color isn't that a step backwards? I really thought we were getting beyond that as a society. I'm for the best person no matter the gender, race or religion. This is America after all. Lon Burnam is a wonderful Representative. We know he works hard for us. Keep the good guy!

America has been warned about the concentration of wealth in the hands of fewer and fewer people and the concentration of power in stricter, less compassionate hands. Get involved locally to control your lives. If you are ready for a change and sick and tired of the one sided, confrontational legislation coming out of the state houses and Washington! The Democratic party is based with inclusion of all races, religions and spreading of the tax burden to all. To exact this, the president will need a Democratic House and Senate to take back the country. If you are happy with the way Congress has run the country under the TEA-GOP-Republican leadership, stay home, don't vote and hide your heads under the pillows. If you are ready for a change and sick and tired of the one sided, confrontational legislation coming out of the state houses and Washington, get involved, get registered, vote and get out the vote!

I have a question...Why is this not a racist remark?
"For years, prominent Fort Worth Hispanics have expressed interest in finding one of their own to replace Burnam in the House."
No one would dare print an article that mentions Anglos expressing interest in finding "one of their own" to "replace" an elected official.

"I am fortunate to have had the friendship and support of Carlos for many years. We are great friends and have worked on many issues and many campaigns together in the past. I am focused on winning my race for Congress, but Carlos and I share a common goal: increasing voter turnout in the Hispanic community and being inclusive of everyone, and helping to turn Tarrant County Blue, just like Dallas.

Go Carlos! Finally a legislator for District 90 who would take his role of representative seriously. Lon has outlived his usefulness and has zero credibility or ability to get things done for Fort Worth. I am not worried, nothing will prevent Lon from continuing to shout, carry protest placards, or schedule hunger strikes. And finally Tarrant will no longer be the largest metropolitan county to have elected not a single Hispanic state representative.
