Mostyn Pours Money Into Race Against Larry Taylor
Houston trial lawyer Steve Mostyn, Texas' largest single contributor to Democrats in 2010, is pouring money into a May 29 GOP primary race, taking aim at state Senate hopeful Larry Taylor.
Mostyn directly gave one of Taylor’s opponents, Dave Norman, $275,000, about a third of the money the candidate raised for the most recent filing period, April 20 through May 19. Norman got another $225,000 from Conservative Voters of Texas, which has gotten nearly all of its money from Mostyn. He was the sole contributor in the last period, giving the committee $400,000.

This article does not tell the entire story. State Senate hopeful from Friendswood, Larry Taylor, a TEA-Republican, was complicit in protecting higher echelon of the State Insurance Board when it was disclosed there was hanky-panky and collusion between Roofing Inspection companies and top administrators of the Texas Insurance Board in Austin. This information came out when Steve Mostyn, a lawyer, sued on behalf of numerous insureds who were left out of insurance proceeds after 'Hurricane Ike." Steve Mostyn was in the forefront helping those insured in multiple suits because TWIA, the pseudo-State-insurance of last resort, was found to have hired corrupt Roofing Inspectors to work insurance claims.
Here's my own example: I had to fight and send letters and four estimates to get a new roof on my house. A roof cannot be repaired after a hurricane like "Ike"! Any attempt to repair a roof will void the pre-existing warranty on the current roof. Insurers have the option of not insuring if the home which makes their house ineligible to meet insurance codes. The only way to fix many roofs is to re-roof the entire house. It cannot be piece mealed to pre-storm condition. The fact is there were and still are corrupt state inspectors around who will low-ball an estimate to keep funds from being spent. In my case, I got four roofing estimates, pictures of the roof and sent a letter to the State Insurance Board, met with my local representative and argued with the local inspectors and writing to every Representative on the Texas coast and Perry office in Austin, before I received any follow-through.
Every cent sent in to this pseudo-state insurance association must be kept in a federally over-sighted corporation and out of the hands of any Texas Legislator! This brings to mind "Corruption", "Under-the-table" and "kickback" as was alleged post IKE! Every legislator in Austin is subject to corrupt charges resulting for failure to install safe guards protecting the public's funds. Additionally inhibitory restrictions on legal ramifications should not be considered since that would limit the correction of gross errors on behalf of TWIA, administrators or Repair contractors. The passage of "Inhibitory Restrictions" by the Texas' one-party Legislature, limited compensation from losses in court proceedings against TWIA. Larry Taylor was at the front of this push, and he does not deserve election to the Senate. I urge everyone to vote for someone else, other than Larry Taylor from Friendswood, Texas.
Larry Taylor of Friendswood, Texas had the audacity to say no heads should roll over TWIA and the corruption and collusion in TWIA. He was wrong! He happens to be one of the representatives from Galveston County. He was derelict in containing the misdeeds of TWIA and or the administrators or the Inspectors, or in-placing controls to keep from paying out bribes, then he also is culpable. This pseudo-state insurance association was created for the protection of the citizens of the Texas coast, and not for the lining of Texas legislators pockets in Austin. The Legislature has been derelict in passing the budget, school funding and jobs while passing Sonogram legislation intruding into Texans bedrooms.

Here's another story on the shenanigans of Larry Taylor of Friendswood, who is running for Texas state Senator.

Good for Mostyn!!! It's not only right wing corporations who can pour money into political races. I'd prefer public financing of elections and no private money, but at least there are some progressives and middle of the road types who are willing to try to fight the "usual suspects"!

Go to the full story and you'll find that all of Mostyn's money STILL doesn't make up for the insurance and big business money that Taylor got from JUST ONE PAC!!!
"Taylor, a state representative from Friendswood, raised more than Norman in the filing period, pulling in $1.1 million. More than $800,000 of it came from Texans for Lawsuit Reform, a large and influential pro-business lobby group. TLR gives mostly to Republicans but also has contributed heavily to a few Democrats who support the group on lawsuit restrictions."

Larry Taylor betrayed his constituents. Forget about party politics - the MAN is unworthy of office. Because of Taylor and others of like him, Coastal residents of Texas are in peril and lack the necessary legal protections needed to fight against Texas Windstorm Insurance Association and other insurance carriers unfair and deceitful practices. Give'em hell Mostyn!

Rudy - sorry, you are wrong on one thing. Taylor is not a TEA-Republican, they can't stay him. I am the Tea Party endorsed candidate in the SD11 race. My donations are 100% from individuals paying a little as $11 at a time. Both of my opponents are wasting other's money just like they will do in Austin if elected.
This seat should not be for sale to the highest bidder. Unfortunately the public only sees the TV ads, mailers, signs or hear the radio ads and hopefully they know better or they will be turned off by both sides. I've won 100% of the straw polls no matter which group hosted the forums. Our message is only known by the informed voters who attend the events or by word of mouth. We are not popular with the lobbyists or special interest groups so there will never be money offered or accepted at this point.
I wish I could fund a commercial of two little babies fighting over a bottle, because that is exactly how many of the voters feel about these two candidate's recent actions. They both are Insurance Salesmen, they both are obligated to protect the Insurance Industry by forcing taxpayers to cover the claim/loses through the TWIA or Fair Plan. Neither side wants to the state to quit funding TWIA because they know the state has deeper pockets and will continue to pay the outrageous fees charged by the attorneys like those working for TRL and Mostyn. We need Insurance and Lobbying Reform among others.
Most importantly we need to quit electing lobbyists as our legislators. FB: Daniel McCool for Texas Senate. "What is right for Texas is right for America"

Taylor is in office, Norman is out of office, In this environment I would not bet on Taylor.

Daniel McCool, if what you say is true, come out against Larry Taylor in print, on the tube, internet and all local papers soon, because he has money to burn and he's a-burning it!
Daniel McCool
Rudy, I have came out in print, tube and at events. Here is the message from August 2011. http://youtu.be/Ux4rCOcujss it hasn't changed.

Mostyn didn't pay me one damn cent, I got my information from trial and error after hurricane Ike. Mostyn's name got into this debate because he became lead lawyer to many who had to fight TWIA(Texas Windstorm Insurance Agency) the pseudo-state insurance of last resort, to get satisfaction for insurance companies to continue insuring other areas in Texas. There were some unscrupulous inspectors who low-balled insured to keep roofing repairs done and insureds became aware of these practices and that's how Mostyn got involved. Larry Taylor, the career politician from Friendswood, has no business anywhere near the insurance board since he is an insurance agent who would benefit directly from decisions or recommendations made by the board. Sadly many voters are ill-informed about TEA-Republican actions at the local level and how they can and do control money, infrastructure and overall decisions effecting everyone. Too many candidates running do not use the (T) behind their name. They are using (R) to hood wink the voters. We need new blood and people who are in it for the people and not themselves.
To Daniel McCool - When I see signs and fliers and TV advertisements denouncing Larry's bid, I will not stop calling him a TEA-Republican!
